Responsibilities:
- Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staff for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads.
- Review work throughout the work process and at completion to ensure that it has been performed properly.
- Transmit and explain work orders to laborers.
- Check specifications of materials loaded or unloaded against information contained in work orders.
- Inform designated employees or departments of items loaded and problems encountered.
- Examine freight to determine loading sequences.
- Evaluate employee performance and prepare performance appraisals.
- Perform the same work duties as those supervised or perform more difficult or skilled tasks or assist in their performance.
- Prepare and maintain work records and reports of information such as employee time and wages, daily receipts, and inspection results.
- Responsible for overall function of the warhouse ensuring all safety, compliance, and regulatory guidelines are followed appropriately.
Essential Skills / Experience:
- Successful clearance of TSA Security Threat Assessment required as a condition of employment.
- Knowledge of management principles such as resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective use of warehouse resources.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits.
- Ability to manage ones own time and the time of others.
- Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Ability to speak to others to convey information effectively.
- Use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of shipping cargo by air, ocean, and ground required.
- HAZMAT / DG certifications strongly preferred.
- 7 years experience in warehouse setting required.
- 5 years management experience.
- Stong OSHA / Heatlh & Safety with ability to conduct staff safety meetings, facility inspections, and documentation.
- Advanced knowledge of TSA security & chain of custody, cargo screening, and standard warehouse safety and security policy & procedures.
- Knowledge of wood packing, marking, labeling, etc. for air and ocean cargo.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
- Ability to use equipment and tools common to the warehouse setting.
- Ability to perform general physical activities
