Responsibilities include implementing safety and environmental programs for all assigned locations and for minimizing company losses. 1)Lead and coordinate overall safety and environmental programs. Includes developing and maintaining written safety and environmental programs; implementing processes and training needed to meet all legal/government requirements in alignment with company needs. 2)Substantial time spent in field to assist operations in driving continuous improvements and compliance by making recommendations for improvements and providing risk assessments to managers and leaders of business operations. Administer effective safety and environmental awareness and incentive programs and foster the company safety and environmental goals. 3)Able to interpret and stay current on a variety standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the locations with frequent contact with all levels of the organization. 4)Responsible for developing and implementing procedures and behavioral applications that drive incident reduction. Responsible for accident investigation and incident analysis and ensuring corrective actions are completed. 5)Provides health and safety, and environmental coaching/assistance to develop managers and safety/environmental teams. Acts as a technical resource responsible for maintaining specific safety programs such as contractor safety, fall prevention, illness and injury prevention programs, accident investigations, hazard communication, emergency action plan and ergonomics programs. Create and maintain metrics to monitor performance in these areas. Acts as technical resource responsible for maintaining environmental programs, licensing and permitting, recordkeeping and reporting requirements such as stormwater, groundwater, solid and hazardous waste, air emissions, and all other environmental media as required. 6)Prepare and submit permits, reports and records to regulatory agencies on time. Maintain on-site records for all regulatory requirements and due dates. 7)Produce and sustain company safety compliance, and environmental calendars with timely submittals of permit applications and fees, regulatory reports and plans (e.g., HMBP/HMIS, OSHA logs). 8) Manage safety and environmental related vendor contracts and budget (e.g., safety/environmental equipment providers, consultants, etc). 9) Position provides first line responsibility for preventing environmental violations and provides immediate environmental emergency responses to incidents, spills, releases, or accidents, including appropriate notifications to management and appropriate regulatory agencies. 10) Incumbent assists in site investigations as required, and remediation projects related to due diligence activities and other environmental and/or health and safety liabilities. 11) Review construction plans to determine if pollution control considerations are adequate and provide technical supervision for construction and installation of pollution control equipment. Prepare proposals and cost estimates for future work. Maintain inventory of existing installations and their current status with regard to compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory law. Job Requirements: Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree required. BS in environmental/Health and Safety, Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering preferred. Two to three years of related experience required Industrial Hygiene experience and three to five years of experience in Environmental Compliance/Management required. Knowledge, skills, abilities to execute local, territory, and federal Health and Safety, and Environmental laws and other government compliance regulations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required as is a valid driver's license and the ability to drive an automobile. Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred. Regional travel may be required. Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions: Ability to: lift and carry up to 20 pounds frequently and over 50 pounds occasionally; walk or otherwise negotiate around physical barriers as would be found in a warehouse or metal recycling scrap yard; sit for up to 6 hours per day; keyboard for 1-3 hours per day; be mobile for extended periods of time, up to several hours per day. Visual acuity to: perform close detail work to input and retrieve data from a computer; read and interpret figures on reports; conduct physical facilities inspections; and drive. The ability to communicate by verbally and in writing, in a professional manner with all levels of hourly and management. Must be able to scale varying heights as necessary. Job Conditions: Exposure to physical operations ranging from office environments to metal recycling ards. Pressure is experienced in decision making concerning applications of code requirements versus production requirements. Periodic overtime is required. On call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. |
