General Manager, Freight Forwarding, Mississauga You may presently be in a management position with a smaller to medium-sized international freight forwarder and are thinking about the next step forward in your career. Our client, due to strong growth is establishing a General Manager, Toronto position as part of the N. American executive team of this very well-established provider of international logistics solutions. Your reputation with the carriers for ethical business dealings and fair negotiations, the strength you have in training, guiding and leading people to new levels of achievement, your experience in international air/sea imports/exports, and your ability to maximize profits while controlling operational costs makes you an ideal candidate for consideration. Job Requirements: Key Responsibilities: To take control of and expand the growth of the International services, worldwide trade-lanes - To establish accountabilities and performance objectives within the international freight department - The authority to negotiate rates and services effectively with air/sea/ground carriers - Hiring and development of Sales and Operations staff - To manage the day to day operations of a thriving international freight forwarding business unit. - To oversee all facets of import/export operations. - To consistently achieve and exceed objectives through the development of people, systems, and processes. - Analyze logistical methods utilized by customers. - Assess and anticipate market trends, technological developments, as well as customer and competitor activity - To lead, motivate, develop and mentor experienced people in the day to day operations of an international freight forwarder. - Set and meet budget objectives. Qualifications Needed: - At least 7-10 years of senior or mid-senior management experience at the Branch Manager and up level of responsibility - Extensive experience in international freight forwarding is an essential requirement, as is direct and current market experience in Toronto - Very strong preference for a Toronto-based executive - Visionary executive with evident leadership skills and a keen sense of changing market conditions in Toronto and other cities in Canada - An experienced negotiator with a proven ability to negotiate favourable terms and conditions at a senior level - A leader with strong people skills and the ability to gain the cooperation and support required to lead a team successfully. - Post-graduate degree or industry equivalent training and accreditation strongly preferred. |
