Job Summary: The Transportation Planner is responsible for daily load planning, review of bills of shipment activity, shipment status as well as cost analysis, customer service, coordination of inbound/outbound product flow, routing impact shipments, cargo claims administration, and cost savings calculation and performance metrics including monthly reporting. The incumbent will also work with integrated TMS/WMS systems and will play a key role in the development of the systems' solution. Transportation Planner will also be involved in the Inbound and Outbound Planning activities within the DC and will provide transportation expertise to the planning process.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Reviews shipment documentation daily including the results of all freight planning, routing compliance, and optimization.
  • Acts as the point person between the client, warehouse and the client Transportation Broker.
  • Oversees daily transportation load planning for IB and OB.
  • Direct liaison between the DC and the Client.
  • Coordinates daily planned shipment strategies with DC shipping and receiving personnel.
  • Reviews expedited shipment requests for DC compliance to ship dates. Presents transactions involving excess costs to Customer Service for review.
  • Coordinates the inbound/outbound flow of product.
  • Works with the Client Broker to develop a group of reliable, cost-effective carrier alternatives. Interfaces with carriers at the local level.
  • Develops, maintains, and presents monthly KPI reports to clients.
  • Investigates shipment pickup and delivery exceptions (root cause analysis), collates data requisite to the filing of claims, and monitors the process in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • Provides strategic insight, creating "value add" for existing clients.
  • Issue resolution including "root cause analysis".
  • Will work as part of the Planning Team of the DC and will work closely with the Inventory Analysts.


Skills and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Skills and/or Experience:
  • Transportation experience encompassing parcel, LTL and truckload modes.
  • Knowledge of working with TMS/WMS integrated systems.
  • Knowledge of cargo claims rules and practices.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Strong pricing/analytical skills.
