Job Description:

OBJECTIVES:
Manage and effectively lead the division Global Distribution-Logistics team in delivering initiatives to leverage improvement and optimization of ADD's Global distribution network resulting in improving ADD's Economic Profitability and overall Delivery Service to our Customers.
  • Provide primary leadership and direction to leverage ongoing strategic optimization of ADD's current $90MM Distribution spend and $80MM Freight spend investment.
  • Establish and facilitate a formal network with ADD's distribution centers, and the 30 global affiliate locations representing a center of excellence. Facilitate ongoing improvements of distribution-logistics processes to optimize the global distribution network for customer delivery of ADD/Abbott products.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Assuming primary responsibility as Global Division ""Process Owner"" for the Delivery process within the Product Process Control (PPC) Quality subsystem. Assumes ownership for leading and delivering identified improvement initiatives obtained through customer feedback forums: i.e. Customer inquiries, Net Promoter Score survey (NPS), Independent customer surveys and the CAPA quality sub-system.
  • Primary interface with ADD's Affiliate General Managers and Regional Vice Presidents related to the development, proposal and accountability for implementation of Global logistics initiatives within respective regions/countries. Responsible for establishing the global delivery process community.
  • Primary stakeholder and decision maker in the negotiation of key contracts with Third Party Logistics (3PL's), Freight Forwarders and periodic annual bid processes (i.e. Global Air/Ocean, LTL, FTL etc). Responsible for assuring adequate, accurate and timely data is provided from all ADD sites for these bid analysis processes. Assures adherence to Abbott legal and risk management policies.
  • Assume role as key division representative on Abbott's Corporate Global Logistics council to leverage cross-divisional benefits in driving continuous improvement for Abbott's Global Supply Chain and Distribution- Logistics network. Primary interface with ADD contract and pricing organization.
  • Responsible the coordination, planning, design, execution and implementation of distribution-logistics programs representing locations through out ADD/Abbott's global distribution network. Develop and coordinate an organization to generate comprehensive analysis of multiple data and factors related to the divisions distribution network (i.e transportation, warehouse. freight spend, inventory, capital investment etc). Formalize initiatives in alignment with division strategies, present to senior management, execute.
  • Responsible for maintaining relevance of industry knowledge of regulatory requirements to assure compliance and adherence to all solutions developed and implemented globally. Scope to include: components of the quality system, international regulatory, local country Ministry of Health (MOH) , U.S. Customs Compliance, USDA, and multiple related agencies which regulate distribution and transportation of ADD/Abbott goods globally.
  • Develop, revise, present and execute the Global Distribution-Logistics long range strategic plan in alignment with executive and senior management strategies and related division objectives.
  • Identify, leverage and maintain a database of best practices by site, region or country from internal and external resources (i.e. industry leaders in supply chain, healthcare, and related academic institutions). Identify new technologies to support leveraging state of the art solutions in alignment with ADD/Abbott ROI, QA, Class A and other key objectives. Analysis to include scope to leverage an improved spending profile within the global distribution network for import/export duties and taxes.Continued development of the Lake County based Global Logistics organization as a core center of excellence for driving continuous improvements in ADD/Abbott's global distribution and transportation network. Facilitating the project management process and organization of periodic forums to align multiple initiatives in alignment with ADD locations and other Abbott division distribution sites in facilitating ongoing coordination of efforts for continuous achievements.


ACCOUNTABILITY / SCOPE:
  • Incumbent reports to Director of Global Distribution-Logistics. Interacts and will represented as primary interface with senior division management, area Vice Presidents, country General Managers and Area Financial Controllers within multiple commercial affiliate site locations.
  • Accountable for management and leadership to deliver multiple improvement programs consistent with global commercial objectives, within the ADD Quality System and aligned with country local regulatory requirements. Responsible for maintaining alignment and obtaining best practices with other Abbott divisions and corporate logistics team.
  • Impact of responsibilities include Global spend of over $180MM in distribution, freight spend, and ongoing inventory investment savings. Ongoing interface/alignment with Corporate Logistics and senior management from outside transportation/logistics suppliers and vendors for negotiation of key contracts.
  • Accountability for accurate analysis and representation of savings, costs for projects across global currencies and complex factors include (freight, warehousing, import/export duties, taxes, transfer margin, value added tax (VAT), inter-company allocations, product standard cost, drayage/fuel surcharges and negotiations/ approval of global contracts. Assures Code of Conduct and Financial standards are met.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Qualifications:
  • 10 years of experience in related area functional area (distribution logistics)to include supply chain management, logistics, transportation, distribution network design, within international and domestic arenas.
  • Project management/program management experience with experience managing cross function teams.
  • Management of direct reports. Demonstrated capability to manage, lead and develop an organization and its members to achieve stretch goals and objectives. Capable of presenting to senior management levels and representing a strategic vision in alignment with short term objectives.
  • Proficiency in common program management communication software tools (i.e. MS Project, Powerpoint, MS Word, Excel, etc.). Experienced in providing/articulating key components of financial analysis including Profit & Loss statement and Balance Sheet.


Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in varied international and domestic regulatory environments and processes related to distribution-logistics (i.e. U.S. Customs Border Protection (USCBP), incoterms, International Customs Import/Export,Homeland Security, Local Country Ministry of Health (MOH), CAPA, USDA, EC-1774 etc.)
  • Experience managing distribution analysts
