The Supplier Quality Specialist role will be about proactively assuring a high level of food safety and quality of our incoming materials for the NA Region via focused ingredient and package supplier development & management. For your assigned scope of direct materials you will act as the food safety & quality key point of contact for the relevant suppliers, as well as for Procurement and the receiving manufacturing plants of the North America manufacturing network (IM/EM).

Success in this role will require team work, collaboration, strong technical skills and knowledge of raw and/or packaging materials, strong influencing skills, ability to work independently and lead projects and a sound understanding of the Biscuit and/or Confectionery business.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • To deliver comprehensive Food Safety & Quality support to your assigned scope of material suppliers to the NA Biscuits and Confectionary Categories. This support as the key Food Safety & Quality contact for your suppliers will involve on-site technical visits and remote supplier interactions for the purpose of:

    o pre-audit capability and readiness assessments,
    o post audit corrective actions completion and review
    o assessment and resolution of specific quality issues
    o lead supplier updates and trainings on MDLZ Supplier Quality Expectations, HACCP and material processing guidelines
    o partner with other regional supplier quality teams to develop training for suppliers.
    o Build and assess supplier capability of meeting target specification.
  • To partner with our key cross-functional teams in Procurement, Category Quality, Auditing, Micro/FS, R&D and Operations to address and resolve supplier Food Safety & Quality issues as they occur. Provide visible quality leadership in Procurement and other stakeholder meetings. Conduct monthly connects with plant quality.

  • To drive quality improvements with assigned suppliers through evaluation of the suppliers' performance and the follow up of Quality Notifications caused by your suppliers, assuring identification and implementation of appropriate Corrective Actions /Preventive Actions for major and re-occurring issues. Share learnings also with other suppliers and our internal plants to prevent similar issues happening again. Lead regular improvement & follow-up calls with identified key suppliers.
  • To lead the execution of the Material Monitoring Program (MMP) for assigned materials, in collaboration with the NA MMP coordinator. Follow up on out of limits results and mitigate potential business impact.
  • To support Quality Auditing with supplier audit planning & preparation, and Supplier Escalation processes.
  • To support Procurement in assuring business continuity through minimizing material supply disruptions as they occur. Ensure a rapid response and escalation as appropriate. Coordinate & close out Exception Requests of disapproved suppliers as necessary.
  • Contribute ideas and action to the improvement of food safety & quality standards / policies / best practices
  • To assure Quality, Food Safety expectations are met for Trademark Licensing (on site tech assessment, remote assessment). Independently lead reviews of documentation and partner with Food Safety of new and current TML partners and
  • Support awareness building of our policies towards our stakeholders, e.g. procurement, R&D and corporate quality functions
  • Drive adherence to MDLZ audit qualification and compliance targets for suppliers of External Manufacturers, in collaboration with EM Procurement.


  • B.S. degree in Food Science, Engineering, Microbiology, Chemistry or other related Science
  • Ideal 2-4 years in an R&D / Quality role - experience
  • Experience in leading and influencing cross-functional teams independently
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize and work independently to complete project work
  • Strong analytical skills and a track record of having identified and implemented technical solutions
  • Excellent communication skills and leadership within cross-functional teams
  • Proficient in computer systems, (incl. spec system. e.g. Interspec/Meridian/ION)
  • Knowledge of statistical processes and problem-solving techniques - Desired
  • Willing to travel up to 25%
