What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Maintain general ledger accounts, including determining journal entry requirements, posting to accounts, reconciling accounts, reporting and monitoring closing results; review some of the work of the accounting specialists as needed
  • Perform analysis of financial results as part of the financial and operational review process; analyze and project expected outcome or results
  • Conduct monthly General Ledger (G/L) reconciliations and other financial controls in compliance with company policies and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
  • Complete preliminary review of financial reports before final close of G/L
  • Apply working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and related principles; verify documents for completeness and compliance with appropriate authoritative guidance
  • Research questions for management; investigate and explain variances to expectations
  • Understand and maintain assigned account/transaction or process from inception through approval, measurement, recording, reporting and monitoring

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a large, manufacturing environment as a plant controller
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Oracle G/L or another ERP system
  • Ability to create complex formulas in Excel

It'd be great if you also have:

  • CPA certification or MBA
  • Ability to quickly learn and achieve proficiency in new software applications
  • Self-motivated work style; able to work well with minimal supervision or in a team environment and consult with team members and management as needed
  • Ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills with the ability to identify and resolve problems
  • Solid ability to develop insightful, value-added and actionable analyses with detailed explanations regarding drivers of those results; able to produce unambiguous, comprehensive and accurate interpretations
