Ocean Import/Export Customer Service Representative



General Summary:

Build strong customer relationships, loyalty and retention; create a central point of contact providing complete shipment information from booking to final delivery and complete billing.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer service issues, coordinating with export, brokerage, air and warehouse departments.
  • Complete Arrival Notices as necessary.
  • Review and update service requirements assuring instructions are followed accordingly or consult with Supervisor.
  • Identify workflow and service concerns with departments; address concerns with management, as needed.
  • Utilize computer system and run daily reports to identify shipment problem; resolve issues before delay of shipment occurs.
  • Work effectively with others in a foam-based environment to accomplish company goals, in accordance with company policies and standard operation procedures.
  • Handle the larger value of special accounts.
  • Prepare quotations with reasonable margins as required, submit to agents and sales department and enter in system; keep shipment records updated regularly.
  • Performs other duties as needed and directed by management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in basic computer operation, and software programs such as MS Office Suite
  • Skill in problem solving and finding alternative solutions to resolve service issues
  • Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with customers and staff in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to organize multiple work assignments and establish priorities
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and ensure accuracy

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 or more years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations
  • Knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), product classification and FDA product coding
  • Knowledge of international trade agreements (i.e. GSP, NAFTA, etc.) and OGA requirements.
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in operating computer programs such as MS Office Suite
  • Skill in problem solving and finding alternative solutions to resolve service issues
  • Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with customers and staff in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to organize multiple work assignments and establish priorities
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and ensure accuracy
