The Category Sales Planning Director Biscuit (CSPD) is the sales/trade expert on his/her assigned category and represents the sales function in the development of all trade/sales strategies/tactics relating to their category. The CSPD is responsible for the co-development with Marketing of an effective trade strategy and activation schedule that delivers annual contracts, gross revenue, net revenue, profit and share on their assigned category.

The CSPD is jointly responsible, with the marketing department, for establishing strategic and tactical trade goals for their category and, in translating these goals into specific programs that will insure their achievement of the annual net revenue and profit plan. The incumbent has primary responsibility for the management of the category trade promotion spending within budget parameters jointly established with marketing.

This position reports to the VP, Customer Development & Sales Planning. Reporting to this position are Category Sales Planning Managers and an Administrative Assistant.
Main Responsibilities:

Development of ongoing business building programs
Responsible for the development of all new products and special pack trade/sales strategies. Develop (with marketing) spending guidelines, market selection, and sales materials. Provides sales/trade expertise in the development of all solo and multi-product consumer promotion programs and supporting materials. Develops/provides expertise on innovative approaches to trade spending programs both category specific and divisional, that will insure the achievement of category objectives.
Full participation/leadership within the integrated business planning process
Attend critical demand meetings, ensure inputs are made to develop brand bridges, bring strong sales POV informed by deep customer forecast dives and reviewing our business on a brand and customer basis. Use facts and judgment to impact final aligned integrated business planning demand call. Develop opportunities to help close gaps and ensure risks are outlined and discussed.
Lead program planning process
Provide strategic and tactical input to the annual planning process through the development of the annual strategic growth plan deck, the development of perfect store KPI and targets, new item forecasts/allocations, etc... Develop great collaborative relationships with the marketing leaders to build and refine all marketing plans. Be responsible, with marketing, for advancing plans to address under development in key channels to include: Club, Convenience, Value and Drug plus eCommerce.
Develop and manage trade spending strategies
Co-develop, with marketing and net revenue mgmt, an annual volume and trade spending plan for the category and brands. D evelop, via the trade marketing review process, specific strategies and tactics for divisional programs and test programs.
Track, analyze and evaluate business trends
Track category/brand performance, on an ongoing basis, to insure that volume goals are achieved within trade spending parameters. Incorporate review of problem/opportunity markets, with focus on development of action plan to address, as integral part of the planning process. Insure that payback analysis process is used to evaluate all incremental/defensive spending requests.
Develop people/grow ourselves
Recruit (both internally and externally), train and develop high quality category sales planners to ensure that both our business and management succession objectives are achieved. Take personal responsibility for a continual process of self-developmen t.



  • Minimum 10 years of overall sales experience
  • Minimum 5 years of sales/trade knowledge
  • Minimum of 5 years strong leadership skills, possess an objective business perspective, be sound analytically, have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and exhibit good interpersonal strengths
  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in Business Administration
