National Ocean Product Specialist

PURPOSE of the Department & Job:

Provides support, direction and thought leadership in a fast growing and "action packed" Ocean Services organization. This position will work closely with Rohlig "core carriers", key operational staff and a dynamic Sales team. Key areas of focus includes strategic product management by leveraging volumes through a defined carrier program, developing winning carrier solutions, and management and improvement of critical product related tools and technology.
Ensure a ‘sales' culture within the department – seen as a trusted advisor to US and global sales force.

  • Under direct guidance of National O/F Manager – responsible to ensure Rohlig obtains business-winning, competitive ocean freight rates, contracts (FCL & LCL), and allocation across all controlled trade lanes
  • Under direct guidance of National O/F Manager – drives the Rohlig FCL Drayage, and direct billing programs
  • Responsible for ensuring strong relationships with all involved parties – carriers, staff, clients
  • Analyses global logistics and transportation industry trends, and network with piers to understand market conditions and distribute intelligence to Rohlig Sales and Operations teams
  • Ensures alignment with Rohlig global ocean initiatives and policies
  • Develops negotiation strategy and ensures successful contract completion
  • Establishes strategic alliances with key internal and external stakeholders focused on total cost and service solutions
  • Responsible for supporting strategy development, leveraging opportunities and managing risks in support of the business
  • Works closely with National Tender Team to complete competitive bids, and negotiate winning rates
  • As required manages the dispute resolution process between vendors and Rohlig. Ability to resolve complex issues and bring them to closure in a streamlined and systematic way
  • In conjunction with the National O/F Manager, Trade Managers, and VP of Sales works directly with sales staff contributing towards ocean business development and closing
  • Ensures a sales driven culture and attitude with the ocean team
  • Able to train staff on ocean processes, and usage of global rate management system
  • Develop and manage various reports including volume, margin and carrier performance
  • Document carrier meetings according to requirements

  • Entry Level. Freight Forwarding industry experience, and knowledge of ocean procurement and pricing would be an added advantage
  • Vendor management (ocean carriers and FCL drayage providers) and customer service skills
  • Negotiation skills, problem solving ability, strategic thinking, drive for results and solid communication skills
