Has operations responsibility at senior level of expertise for Brokerage at station level.
This opportunity could be based in Seattle, Washington or Anchorage, Alaska.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Ensures compliance with customs broker regulations (19 CFR) and Lynden guidelines.
- Prepares and presents accurate, compliant, and timely ACE transactions, including import entries, ACH statements, ISF, in-bond, PSC, etc.
- Properly classifies import merchandise for CBP and PGA purposes and documents the classification rationale.
- Facilitates timely and efficient transportation of air, ocean, truck, and rail imports from beginning to end.
- Updates shipment data and tracking events in multiple applications.
- Interacts with CBP and PGAs on behalf of import clients on pre- and post-entry matters.
- Supports import client relationships with regard to CBP and PGA compliance, customer service (including SOPs, quoting, and accounting), and carrier relations.
- Prepares accurate and timely invoices for import clients, and supports necessary issue resolution and amendments.
- Submits vendor invoices timely to Lynden's General Office for approval and payment.
- Supports internal auditing and implementation of any necessary corrective actions.
- Supports Lynden's CTPAT certification requirements.
- Promptly attends to all assigned training requirements.
- Reports to work reliably and on time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school education or equivalent and 5 years progressive experience in importing; or 4 year's experience at LAF with one year at Import Agent 2 level or equivalent. 4-year degree in related field may be substituted for part of experience. Familiar with all Customs regulations and must be licensed by U.S. Customs to conduct transactions per CFR 19 Section 111.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, tariffs, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, other employees, and the general public.
Ability to accurately calculate duty and freight rates, including the effect of dimensionalized weight and amounts such as percentages, volume, and discounts.
Ability to interpret a variety of regulatory informaiton and instructions in written or oral form. Ability to solve unusual problems and deal with a variety of complex or difficult situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to work independently in difficult or complex or nonstandard situations.Fully competent to make independent decisions.
Familiarity with Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Windows, etc.)
Must be able to effectively interact with sales and other office personnel
Excellent organizational skills & leadership skills
Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.
Experience with imports into Alaska a plus.
Successfully pass background and drug screens.
- Ability to possess and maintain a TSA Security Threat Assessment(STA) with a status of Passed, or a TSA recognized equivalent. TSA recognized equivalents include a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge, Commercial Driver's License(CDL) with Hazmat Endorsement issued within the 50 States or District of Columbia, the Transportation Worker Identification Card(TWIC), or Free and Secure Trade(FAST) card issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. STA's will be submitted by Lynden International upon job offer and renewed thereafter. Recognized equivalents must be current at time of application and successfully renewed by the applicant thereafter.
