What You'll Do

Primary Responsibility:

Manages carriers in determining the best shipping solution balancing price, service, and carrier availability. Manages carrier performance to maintain a minimum of 95% on time delivery using effective problem-solving skills.

Essential Functions:
  • Work closely with the Transportation Operations Manager to efficiently manage carrier performance to achieve a minimum of 95% on-time deliveries.
  • Effectively plan and coordinate product transport for our high-volume, fast-paced drayage operation.
  • Utilize your knowledge of regional ports/marine terminals and drayage operations to maximize productivity, manage costs, and quickly avoid or solve problems in real time.
  • Maintain excellent information flow and communications between a wide range of people including drivers, suppliers, and management.
  • Determine the best solution to route orders to maximum service standards and margins when required.
  • Proactively provide problem-resolution for customers, warehouses, and carriers.
  • Escalate issues to management as appropriate.

What Experience You Need

  • 2-5 years transportation and dispatch experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Some experience with dispatch in a drayage operation or marine terminal/port setting.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, with AS/400 experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of regional marine terminals/ports highly preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and willingness to take initiative.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build relationships and partner with co-workers and outside business partners.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at the same time.
