Olympia Food Industries, a manufacturer of Greek & Mediterranean foods, is seeking a skilled and reliable maintenance technician to join our team at our food manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the facility grounds and buildings, ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient working environment. This role does not include maintenance of heavy machinery or equipment but focuses on building infrastructure and property maintenance. This shift starts at 6:00am & generally runs 10 hours, regularly from Monday to Friday, with a 1-hour break. The starting pay will be dependent on applicant's knowledge, experience, resume & reference.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Facility Maintenance:
    • Perform routine inspections of the building structures, including walls, floors, ceilings, doors, and windows.
    • Repair and maintain structural elements such as drywall, flooring, and roofing.
    • Handle minor carpentry tasks like installing shelves, repairing fixtures, and assembling furniture.
  2. Plumbing:
    1. Inspect & repair plumbing systems to ensure proper functioning of sinks, toilets, & drainage systems.
    2. Address leaks, clogs, and other minor plumbing issues promptly.
    3. Replace worn or damaged pipes and fixtures as needed.
  3. Electrical Work:
    • Replace or repair lighting fixtures, switches, and outlets.
    • Conduct basic troubleshooting of electrical issues within the facility.
    • Ensure all electrical repairs comply with safety regulations.
  4. HVAC Maintenance:
    • Perform routine maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
    • Replace filters and clean ducts to ensure optimal air quality.
    • Coordinate with HVAC professionals for complex repairs or installations.
  5. Grounds Maintenance:
    • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of outdoor areas, including lawns, walkways, and parking lots.
    • Perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal, leaf clearing, and de-icing surfaces.
    • Ensure proper disposal of waste and recyclables in accordance with environmental regulations.
  6. Safety and Compliance:
    • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential safety hazards within the facility and grounds.
    • Maintain fire safety equipment, including extinguishers and alarm systems.
    • Ensure all maintenance work complies with OSHA standards and local building codes.
  7. Sanitation Support:
    • Assist in maintaining high sanitation standards critical for a food processing environment.
    • Repair and maintain sanitation equipment like handwashing stations and sanitation sinks.
    • Coordinate with the sanitation team to address any facility-related concerns.
  8. Inventory and Supplies:
    • Manage inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.
    • Order necessary materials and keep records of expenses.
    • Ensure tools and equipment are in good working condition.
  9. Coordination with Staff:
    • Work closely with the facility manager and other team members to prioritize maintenance tasks.
    • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
    • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or services.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in facility maintenance or as a handyman.
    • Experience in a food manufacturing or processing environment is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs, and HVAC maintenance.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities & attention to detail.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
    • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently.

Certifications and Licenses: (highly preferred, though not needed)

  1. OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification:
    • Understanding of workplace safety and health standards.
    • Knowledge of hazard recognition and prevention.
  2. EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Type I):
    • For handling and servicing small appliances that contain refrigerants.
  3. Lockout/Tagout Training Certification:
    • Knowledge of procedures to control hazardous energy during maintenance activities.
  4. Valid Driver's License:
    • For operating company vehicles or equipment if necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
  • Comfortable working at heights, such as on ladders or scaffolding.
  • Ability to perform tasks that involve bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Willingness to work in varying temperatures and conditions typical of a food processing environment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Background Check and Drug Screening:
    • Must pass pre-employment background checks and drug tests.
  • Availability:
    • Flexible to work occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts in case of emergencies.
