Job Overview

The Building Maintenance Technician handles the fabrication of walls, installation of doors and windows, paint selection and preparation, basic plumbing installation and troubleshooting and the regulation of air quality, temperature and humidity in building interiors. Technicians also need to have an understanding of basic electrical theory, motor theory and wiring.

Shift and Schedule

The Building and Facilities Technician operates in our Sumner, WA facility from 5pm - 5:15am Thursday - Saturday, alternating Wednesdays.

Responsibilities
  • Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions; prepares work orders and recommends repairs a pre-established check sheet
  • Provide preventative maintenance support for plant equipment
  • Maintain safe, clean work areas and comply with all company safety requirements
  • Participate on improvement teams and coordinate with engineers and vendors on special projects
  • Perform minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools
  • Perform minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.)
  • Perform minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.)
  • Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and space (e.g. furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks
  • Prepares the surfaces and paints various structures and equipment (e.g. walls, refrigerators, evaporative coolers, floors, roofs, doors, restroom facilities, etc.) to preserve wood and metal parts from corrosion and maintain a safe, comfortable working environment using various painting equipment and related tools (e.g. sprayers, rollers, brushes, thinners, etc.)
  • Order parts and maintain required documents
Requirements
  • Ability to travel to attend training, meetings or conferences 1-4 times per year
  • Basic electrical, mechanical and maintenance skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Computer Skills, Microsoft Word and Excel desirable
  • Must obtain lockout certification and be able to wear OSHA approved safety gear
  • Ability to obtain forklift and aerial work platform equipment certification
  • Ability to work at heights above 20 feet including on ladders and lifts
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to climb ladder and step ladder
  • Ability to constantly lift, bend, stretch and stand during entire shift.
  • Bending at the waist, sitting, kneeling, laying horizontally, climbing, walking, etc., as job may require
  • Ability to work with cleaning solutions, hydraulic fluid, compressor oil, gasoline, de-greasers, lubricants, paints, and solvents
  • Ability to push/pull up to 1,500 pounds using supplied equipment
  • Ability to handle Bio-medical waste such as hypodermic needles, body fluids, cultures, specimens, etc. while wearing OSHA approved safety gear
  • Ability to frequently kneel, squat, bend, and stoop, twist, and reach overhead with repetitive motions.
