Customs Brokerage Department Manager


Location: New York, NY


Salary: $70,000 – $110,000, depending on experience



Job Summary:


We are seeking a proactive and experienced Customs Brokerage Manager to lead our import compliance and customs operations. This leadership role requires deep regulatory knowledge, client-facing expertise, and the ability to develop staff and drive departmental performance.



Responsibilities:



  • Oversee and maintain all aspects of the Customs Brokerage Department

  • Collaborate with Branch Manager and Corporate teams to meet departmental KPIs

  • Implement policies and compliance procedures to uphold U.S. Customs regulations

  • Conduct internal audits and manage import compliance programs

  • Stay updated on CHB/CBP and OGA regulations to ensure full compliance

  • Serve as primary liaison with government agencies (e.g., CBP, FDA, USDA)

  • Manage customer bond and power of attorney documentation

  • Prepare and file post-entry corrections and binding rulings

  • Train and develop staff on compliance standards and productivity expectations

  • Support business development efforts and assist in sales/client meetings

  • Ensure successful client onboarding and develop customized logistics solutions

  • Oversee daily functions including Statements, Bonds, Penalties, IOR/Consignee creation, ACH, Arrival Notices, Invoicing, Entries, and Reconciliation



People Management:



  • Assign and balance team workload to maintain smooth daily operations

  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members to enhance performance

  • Lead new hire training and maintain performance standards

  • Communicate team goals and hold team accountable to expectations



Qualifications:



  • Customs Compliance Specialist (CCS) certification preferred

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in logistics, entry writing, or import/export compliance

  • Supervisory or management experience required

  • Familiarity with HTS classification, international shipping, and compliance documentation

  • Strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills

  • Experience with automated brokerage and shipping systems

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field preferred
