Customs Brokerage Department Manager
Location: New York, NY
Salary: $70,000 – $110,000, depending on experience
Job Summary:
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Customs Brokerage Manager to lead our import compliance and customs operations. This leadership role requires deep regulatory knowledge, client-facing expertise, and the ability to develop staff and drive departmental performance.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and maintain all aspects of the Customs Brokerage Department
- Collaborate with Branch Manager and Corporate teams to meet departmental KPIs
- Implement policies and compliance procedures to uphold U.S. Customs regulations
- Conduct internal audits and manage import compliance programs
- Stay updated on CHB/CBP and OGA regulations to ensure full compliance
- Serve as primary liaison with government agencies (e.g., CBP, FDA, USDA)
- Manage customer bond and power of attorney documentation
- Prepare and file post-entry corrections and binding rulings
- Train and develop staff on compliance standards and productivity expectations
- Support business development efforts and assist in sales/client meetings
- Ensure successful client onboarding and develop customized logistics solutions
- Oversee daily functions including Statements, Bonds, Penalties, IOR/Consignee creation, ACH, Arrival Notices, Invoicing, Entries, and Reconciliation
People Management:
- Assign and balance team workload to maintain smooth daily operations
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members to enhance performance
- Lead new hire training and maintain performance standards
- Communicate team goals and hold team accountable to expectations
Qualifications:
- Customs Compliance Specialist (CCS) certification preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in logistics, entry writing, or import/export compliance
- Supervisory or management experience required
- Familiarity with HTS classification, international shipping, and compliance documentation
- Strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills
- Experience with automated brokerage and shipping systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field preferred
