The successful applicant will bring thier managment and international freight experience to the team. they will coordinate activities of all employees engaged in international operations by performing the following duties either personally or through subordinate personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all office related shipment processing tasks associated with international freight.
- Monitors work of Air, Ocean, Customs Brokerage and Gateway Departments-including exports, imports and 3PL accounts.
- Ensures continuous process improvement to increase efficiencies, productivity and the quality of customer service.
- Works with the local, regional and operational management to support training procedures and programs in compliance with corporate policy and governmental regulatory requirements and the personal development of the team.
- Monitors performance and compliance regarding all regulatory requirements, e.g. AES, Known/Unknown Shipper Procedures, TSA Database, Dangerous Goods, etc.
- Conducts random audit of shipment files.
- Assists the business development efforts of the local Sales Organization in support of rating, quoting and customer responsiveness.
- Establishes rapport and professional relations with overseas offices.
- Establishes collaborative work relations with warehouse operations to ensure expeditious processing of import/export cargo.
- Ongoing liaison and relationship building with all key vendors, including airlines, steamship lines, cartage agents and the like. Responsible for continuous review and negotiation of vendor tariffs.
- Oversees maintenance of all applicable tariffs and POA files in association with appropriate corporate resource.
- Develop metrics and programs of accountability in monitoring service levels of all core contract service providers.
- Ensure within corporate standards timely invoicing and posting of all shipments.
- Monitor profit split functions to ensure accurate shipment credit.
- Responsible for the Station International P&L to ensure, cost budgets are controlled and margin targets are achieved through the continuous review of transportation and station costs and the monitoring and measurement of quote activity and effectiveness respectively.
- Schedules team briefings at least monthly to promote effective communications and employee feedback.
- Maintains employee records and ensures performance reviews are conducted as scheduled.
General supervision, training, and direction of all international operations office personnel. Performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, including initiating decision to terminate; addressing complaints and problem solving.
- High school diploma and minimum 5 years of experience managing an international operation. Must be extremely familiar with import and export compliance matters. College degree strongly preferred.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Ability to read, analyze and interpret tariffs, general business periodicals, professional journals and manuals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to calculate and apply concepts such as dimensionalized weight, understanding of conversion tables, etc.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Strong organization and leadership skills.
- Must be able to interact with sales, warehouse and other personnel.
- Intermediate user of Microsoft software (Excel, Word, Windows)
- Ability to possess and maintain a TSA Security Threat Assessment(STA) with a status of Passed, or a TSA recognized equivalent. TSA recognized equivalents include a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge, Commercial Driver's License(CDL) with Hazmat Endorsement issued within the 50 States or District of Columbia, the Transportation Worker Identification Card(TWIC), or Free and Secure Trade(FAST) card issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. STA's will be submitted by Lynden International upon job offer and renewed thereafter. Recognized equivalents must be current at time of application and successfully renewed by the applicant thereafter.
