Training & Safety Specialist - Elk Grove Village, IL - Yusen Logistics

This is a safety sensitive position.

The Safety Specialist provides professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of safety, health and environmental programs. The Safety Specialist will assist the Director of Safety in the development, coordination and implementation of environmental health and safety programs across all business units at Yusen Logistics (Americas) Inc. and assists in the organizational safety, health and environmental compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and company policies.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all business units are in compliance with Yusen Logistics' Global Safety Policy.
  • Assit with rolling out the design and implement OSHA program guidelines according to federal labor laws, OSHA regulations and safety needs of the organization. Ensure proper OSHA record management system is maintained. Complete and/or participate in the management of all required OSHA reports.
  • Review safety policies and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate, conduct hazard and risk assessments and develop new or, where necessary make recommendations to senior management to amend safety policies and procedures.
  • Track and analyze ongoing safety and environmental programs, conduct periodic evaluations and provide safety statistics and performance metrics.
  • Deliver safety and health related training in accordance with Yusen Logistics', state and federal requirements.
  • Analyze accident statistics and trends. Ensure information on incidents is shared adequately across all locations. Conduct (or coordinate) on site reviews of accident scenes, collect pertinent data and information; interview involved parties/witnesses; document and report findings.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve the knowledge and skill of the facility managers/supervisors in order to improve systems and positively impact the safe operations of the business.
  • Communicate with safety coordinators across the organization to develop business-unit specific safety policies, address workers compensation issues with a focus towards prevention and to identify training needs and customize training.
  • Promote safety and environmental awareness in the organization.
Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Interact with employees and associates in an appropriate/professional manner.
  • Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.
  • Train and Follow up on progress with new employees and associates.
  • Collaborate with Management on associates progress and recommend actions for improvement.
  • Champion or participate on a KAIZEN at least once per quarter.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures


Qualifications
  • Associates's degree preferably in Occupational Safety or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in environmental health and safety compliance is preferred or equipment operator/material handler experience
  • Prior experience in the logistics supply chain, trans-loading, warehousing, freight forwarding business is preferred.
  • Ability to write MECE principle and structured documents preferred.
  • Ability to analyze workplace incidents and suggest alternative methods to prevent injury in the future.
  • Skilled at obtaining and processing information and providing actionable feedback to the organization.
