Purpose:
This position exists within Timken's Research & Development team to provide gauging and inspection solutions for the Company, and to support deployment of the technology into global manufacturing facilities. In addition to these tasks, the individual will also support and maintain currently operational measurement devices used in Timken's manufacturing facilities.
The candidate will be involved in supporting and developing new products, processes, and technology, and will work closely with manufacturing plants and other internal departments, such as Corporate Product Design, Quality, and Process Design and Development teams.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- GAUGING TECHNOLOGY - Keeps abreast of commercial precision measurement devices and their applicability to Timken's current and future needs
- MANUFACTURING PLANT SUPPORT - Supports global manufacturing facilities in deployment and continuously improves gauging technology
- MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS - Applies mathematical and statistical skills for analysis in evaluating gauging system performance including Gauge R&R studies.
- NEW PRODUCTS - Develops gauging and inspection methodologies in support of New Product launches.
- PROJECT MANAGEMENT - Leads, plans, controls budget, and provides regular project updates on gauging projects being implemented into our manufacturing facilities. Ability to formally summarize accomplishments, status, and issues in presentation and report formats.
- TEAM ENVIRONMENT - Work individually and in a team environment to investigate, evaluate, and select both custom and commercially available gauging solutions to measure Timken products.
- TRAVEL - willingness to travel both domestically and internationally to Timken Manufacturing Plants and/or Supplier locations - required periodically (occasionally for extended durations) at approximately 25%, depending on active projects.
Who are We Seeking?
We are seeking December 2021 or May 2022 College graduates with the following backgrounds:
- Bachelor's in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related degree
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above, cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above highly preferred
- Engineering internships/co-ops/apprentice programs preferred
- Hands on experience working including gauging systems, inspection, metrology, quality systems, and calibration preferred.
- Possess leadership potential that has been demonstrated in academic or extra-curricular activities, or during employment
- Achievement in non-academic pursuits such as clubs and organizations, special projects, military service, and prior work experience
- Ability to learn quickly
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Demonstrated effective communication skills
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
